I rank hot dogs right up there with bacon in terms of my vital food groups, so you could say I’m somewhat of a dog expert. Always in search of a great dog, the last place you would expect to find a masterpiece is sometimes where you least expect it. It’s not Chicago (those are fantastic) and it’s not New York (good too) …….it’s Knoxville, TN. At this point I imagine your eyes rolling and you’re saying that I’m full of complete crap, but hear me out. There is a little place tucked in between a tiny group of stores that you’d miss if you blinked more than a couple times. It’s called D&B Hot Dogs and Ice Cream and it’s located on the way into Oak Ridge – yep, the home of the Atomic Bomb!!! Their menu is not what you might expect, with items named : Only one man, Hawt Dog, Covered Wagon, Reuben dog, Cuban Dog, or the Loaded Elvis Pocket. But I can tell you this, the ingredients are fresh, and the portions are huge. Plus, and this is a HUGE PLUS…..the buns are actually toasted and buttered – just like Texas toast! Do yourself a favor and check this place out, and remember “a dog is a man’s best friend.” I’ve included a menu and some mouth watering pics to grab your attention.
