Many of you have requested more gun reviews and range time videos. I’d love to make this happen myself, but the fact of the matter is that it’s expensive! Fortunately, my friends at Rainier Munitions hooked me up with some of their new ammo. Not only that, but they gave me an extra box to giveaway to one of you – my loyal readers! Most of you have probably already entered to win, but for those that haven’t, full instructions will be at the end of the article. So for now, let’s get right to the review.
Rainier Munitions 9mm 147grain ammo review:
My initial impression of the ammo sent to me from Rainier Munitions started the moment I took the first round out of the box. I have to say that this is the prettiest ammo I’ve seen ever. I’m not sure how they are able to do it, but the polish on these rounds looks like a SEMA car display! Now, I know that some of you reading right now are saying “who gives a $h!#” but to me, the devil is in the details. If a company takes that time for quality control in all stages of production then that is a product I will feel more comfortable with if my life ever depended on it.
Now onto the range testing. For my testing, I used a variety of handguns. Of course, I brought out some Glocks (G19 and G43)- but we all know that they will eat whatever you put down their throats. So for the naysayers I brought out some others as well. I do a lot of research before purchasing any gun, so I can’t honestly say that I own anything unreliable. However, along with the Glocks I brought out my M&P Shield and my Kimber Micro 9.
With only 50 rounds for testing (gosh I was sooooo close to shooting your box!!!) I focused more rounds towards the shield and the Kimber. In particular, I’ve found that Kimbers, in general, can be particular in terms of ammo and grain count so I would say the largest portion went to that gun. At the range, I always load mags with only 5 rounds at a time. For me, this serves multiple purposes. First of all, it forces me to slow down and conserve my ammo. The slowing down allows me to rethink how my last shots landed, grip, stance, etc. Overall impression, was exactly what you would hope to see. Absolutely zero issue in any gun. I also noticed that the overall recoil in each gun felt extremely soft- though I have no technical data to confirm this, only my experience with hundreds of rounds through each of these guns.
At home after the range time, I then stripped each gun down for a full cleaning. I’m one of those oddballs that enjoy cleaning my guns, I think it has something to do with the mechanical element of it all. Based on that fact, I was sure that all were completely detailed upon arriving at the range. During this post shoot tear down, I was happy to see that they were minimally dirty. I know what you are thinking “it was less than 50 rounds in each!” and you would be right. But, we’ve all shot the same round count with the cheap stuff and came out as filthy as a shade tree mechanic during the same type cleanings. I would have to say that in my opinion, this is some clean running ammo.
Overall final thoughts:
- quality rounds
- smooth shooting
- clean
- price point is in line with the competition
My opinion, if you are in the market for some good quality ammo, I don’t think you will be disappointed in the least with Rainier Munitions.
