For about 5 years now I’ve carried a Kershaw knife. No matter if it’s my full-time job or in my business, there is always something that requires a good knife – even if it’s just to open the latest tax bill šĀ Ā And, for the last 5 years or so Kershaw is the one that did the trick. It was actually quite by accident that I happened upon Kershaw as a brand. I was in the sporting goods section of WalMart when I noticed the Kershaw shuffle priced around $15.Ā I had heard the name before, looked it over, loved the shape of the blade, and since I needed a nice little pocket carry, I bought it. Fast forward 3 years and I was still carrying that little Kershaw shuffle. Aside from the time that I broke the pocket clip, I’ve used this thing to cut, slice, pry, and open bottles. And- since these are guaranteed for life, the company sent me a new clip free of charge. At this point, it had been 3 years since buying that little wonder, and I had been doing some reading about great knives for a limited budget. The Kershaw Cryo was one of the tops on the list. Noting the flipper blade and all metal construction, I decided to give it a shot. I drove over to the same WalMart as before and snagged this one up for right at $21.00. Just like the Shuffle, I carried this knife every day not hesitating toĀ putĀ it through the ringer. After two years and lots of sharpening it was still good as new, despite a little wear and patina that I had actually grown to love.
Now let’s jump forward to Christmas of this past year (2017). Throughout the year I had been continually adding to, taking away from, and improving upon my EDC. I had switched my daily carry handgun to a Glock 43, added a flashlight, went to a front pocket wallet, and had been just itching to increase the size of my carry knife. Not wanting to go too extreme, but still wanting a good weight and feel, I starting pouring over articles and InstagramĀ pics. That’s how I spotted the Kershaw Knockout. My wife took notice of my new online obsession, and the rest is history. Santa had a new Kershaw Knockout 
waiting for me under the tree. It was decked out with olive green scales and a black stonewashed finish blade. What a beautiful piece, with a laser-etched American flag on the clip side just to top it all off. The additional length of the blade in comparison to the Cryo, allow this one to open smooth as silk. The edge is easily sharp enough to shave, and the overall weight is surprisingly light for the total size. Honestly, this is likely the largest pocket knife I would be comfortable carrying in public, topping out at nearly 8 inches open. However, with the clip allowing for an incredibly deep carry, and the thinness of the scales, it is not at all uncomfortable and nearly invisible.
The Knockout can be found on Amazon right now for around $60 and I would say it’s a heck of a deal. One day, I might be fortunate enough to compare the Kershaw against a more upscale brand such as a Benchmade or a Spyderco. But until then I’ll be rocking the Kershaw. Just a couple weeks into the year, and having carried the knife nonstop, I’m impressed. In just a few days I will be posting my latest updated EDC video, where I will feature my full carry.
